Taylor Swift Donates $113,000 to a Tennessee LGBTQ Organization

by: Natalie Gard

Taylor, a Tennessee resident, has been quite about her political views. That was up until last years election, when she decided that she would take a stand for her political party. Since then, she has been an advocate for Tennessee voters; encouraging young Tennesseans to register and get out there and vote!

Now T.S. is taking a bigger stance for the LGBTQ Community in her home state. There has been a petition in Tennessee that could stop same-sex partners from adopting. As of Monday, she donated $113,000 to the Tennessee Equality Project that works specifically with the LGBTQ community. She took to Instagram saying, “I’m writing you to say that I’m so inspired by the work you do, specifically in organizing the recent petition of Tennessee faith leaders standing up against the ‘slate of hate’ in our state legislature. Please convey my heartfelt thanks to them and accept this donation to support the work you and these leaders are doing.” Chris Sanders, the executive director of Tennessee Equality Project, said that he and the TEP are “honored and grateful” for her note and donation.

In her post, she also encouraged young people to register to vote saying, “So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting!”
