What is your musical choice when it comes to driving? My playlist consists of listening to Hits 96, listening to the FM Podcast and the Hey What’s Up Hello Podcast and my favorite song right now (thank you tiktok) is Billy Joel’s Vienna. What music you listen to while you drive could affect how safe you are behind the wheel. That’s according to a new study that found some songs are more distracting than others to drivers. According to Spotify data, commissioned and analyzed by PassMeFast, Billie Eilish‘s “bad guy” was the “safest” song with the lowest “distraction score” of popular songs looked at. The PassMeFast team reviewed the songs in Spotify’s 20 most popular driving playlists — nearly 1,500 songs — and gave each a distraction score based on three features: danceability; high energy; and how emotionally charged the music is. Songs they considered extremely distracting were more energetic and emotionally charged, but had low danceability. Following “bad guy” as safest driving songs were “July” by Noah Cyrus and “Bruises” by Lewis Capaldi. Looking at the songs that were most distracting, Outkast‘s “Hey Ya!” was first, followed by “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers and Jay-Z‘s “Empire State of Mind.” (Studyfinds)
