CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee – Get ready to boogie, because the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UT-Chattanooga) is hosting the much-awaited semi-annual Bloodanooga Blood Drive, in partnership with Blood Assurance. The event, set to take place on October 10th and 11th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. inside the University Center Tennessee Room, invites the entire community to roll back in time to the ’70s disco era while contributing to a noble cause.
Dr. Liz Culler, Chief Medical Officer for Blood Assurance, expressed her excitement, stating, “It’s always a treat to return to campus for what has historically been a terrific, well-attended blood drive. In the past, student participation has been amazing, and we hope that continues next week. It’s important that young, healthy individuals understand the importance of becoming regular blood donors.”
Bloodanooga, which debuted in 2011, has since become a significant event in the community. Over the past 12 years, Blood Assurance has collected nearly 7,800 units of blood through this initiative, saving countless lives in the process.
To encourage participation, Blood Assurance is offering a special treat to all donors. Each person who donates blood on Tuesday and Wednesday will receive a commemorative Bloodanooga t-shirt, a nod to the funky disco era.
Moreover, donors will automatically be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a Sony Turntable Sound System. Free food and drinks will be available for all participants, alongside the opportunity to win various other prizes.
Individuals interested in donating can schedule an appointment by visiting the Blood Assurance website at bloodassurance.org/schedule, calling 800-962-0628, or texting BAGIVE to 999777. Walk-ins are also welcome.
To be eligible to donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in good health. Donors are encouraged to hydrate and enjoy a hearty meal before donating to ensure a smooth and successful donation process.
Blood Assurance, a nonprofit, full-service regional blood center, serves more than 70 healthcare facilities across Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Established in 1972, Blood Assurance’s mission is to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components to every area patient in need.
So, put on your bell bottoms, dust off your disco moves, and join UT-Chattanooga and Blood Assurance for the grooviest event in town. Let’s dance our way to saving lives at Bloodanooga!
