“In The Know with Gino”…

Tennessee residents are gearing up for a massive tree-planting initiative set to take place on March 15th and 16th, organized by the Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC). The annual event, known as Tennessee Tree Day, aims to enhance the state’s environment and communities by distributing and planting native tree seedlings.

This year’s event offers an opportunity for individuals to reserve their own tree seedlings for pickup at the Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center on March 15th and 16th. The deadline to reserve a tree is Monday, March 4th. Participants can choose from a variety of tree species, with seedlings available for a suggested donation ranging from $.99 to $4.99. Tennessee Tree Day is not only a local effort but also the largest community tree-planting project of its kind in America. On Saturday, March 16, 2024, residents across the state will collectively plant over 100,000 native tree seedlings in all 95 Tennessee counties. These trees, provided by TEC, are intended for planting on private properties, ensuring their impact will be felt for generations to come.

The initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation. By participating in Tennessee Tree Day, individuals have the opportunity to contribute directly to the preservation and enhancement of Tennessee’s natural landscape.

As a nonprofit organization, TEC relies on the support of volunteers and donors to make Tennessee Tree Day possible. The success of the event hinges on the participation and generosity of Tennessee residents who share a commitment to environmental stewardship.

With tree seedlings available for pickup in mid-March, Tennessee Tree Day offers an accessible and impactful way for individuals to make a positive difference in their communities and the environment at large. By planting trees, participants are not only beautifying their surroundings but also actively contributing to the health and sustainability of Tennessee’s ecosystems.
