Blood Assurance is urgently calling for O-negative blood donors as their supply has reached critically low levels—currently less than half a day’s worth. With many communities witnessing a decline in blood donations due to Spring Break activities, the organization is stressing the importance of prompt donations as more areas prepare for their recesses next week.

Compounding the situation, forecasts indicate potential severe weather in parts of the Blood Assurance service region. Should storms result in injuries or disrupt donation operations, the blood available today is essential for saving lives in the immediate future.

This time of year, we need everyone to prioritize blood donation,” emphasized Garry Allison, Senior Vice President of Operations at Blood Assurance. He noted that every donation must undergo 24 hours of testing before it can be utilized by hospitals. “Having a reliable supply ready before any emergencies occur ensures we can respond quickly to those in need.”

To incentivize donations, Blood Assurance is offering a limited-edition “Shenanigans and Saving Lives” T-shirt for all donors who give blood between now and March 17th. Additionally, donors of O-negative and AB plasma will receive a $25 e-gift card as a token of appreciation.
