Chattanooga Lookouts Announce Exciting New Ballpark: Erlanger Park Set to Open in 2026

In The Know with Gino…

The city of Chattanooga is buzzing with anticipation as officials today unveiled details of an ambitious new development that promises to transform the South Broad District.

Introducing Erlanger Park, a groundbreaking multi-use venue that will serve as the future home of the Chattanooga Lookouts and become the region’s premier gathering place.

A Historic and Modern Fusion:

Located on the historic site of the former Wheland Foundry, Erlanger Park will beautifully blend Chattanooga’s proud industrial legacy with cutting-edge amenities. The project will preserve and restore two historic buildings—the Pattern Shop and the Powerhouse —integral elements of the new venue’s identity. This innovative approach honors the city’s rich manufacturing past while paving the way for a vibrant future.

A Multi-Use Destination for All Seasons:

Set to open in Spring 2026, Erlanger Park will span over 140 acres in the heart of the South Broad District, just south of Downtown Chattanooga. The venue is designed to be more than just a baseball stadium; it will be a dynamic, year-round hub for entertainment, social events, and community gatherings.

With a seating capacity of approximately 8,000 for baseball games, the park will be home to the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. But the venue’s versatility extends far beyond baseball — it will feature a 40,000-square-foot climate-controlled event space suitable for weddings, concerts, banquets, and conferences. Additionally, the park’s design includes a 360-degree wrap-around concourse offering multiple vantage points and experiences, ensuring every visitor has a unique perspective.

A Gateway to Revitalization:

The development of Erlanger Park is a key piece in the broader revitalization of the South Broad District—a project that has been underway since 2003. The area, encompassing more than 400 acres, includes the historic Wheland Foundry and U.S. Pipe sites, as well as South Broad Street, Southside Gardens, and surrounding neighborhoods.

This once-in-a-generation effort aims to redevelop and restore 140 acres into a vibrant, mixed-use live-work-play community. The project is expected to attract more than $1 billion in private investment and generate over $2.3 billion in economic impact for the Chattanooga region over the coming decades.

An Accessible and Scenic Location:

Erlanger Park’s strategic location along the Chattanooga Riverwalk greenway offers scenic views and easy access for visitors. The initial phase will feature surface-level parking lots, with future plans for parking structures integrated into the development as the district evolves.

More Than Just a Ballpark:

Beyond sports, Erlanger Park will be a versatile venue for numerous events, including concerts, festivals, community celebrations, and corporate functions. The park’s centerpiece, a 40,000-square-foot climate-controlled hall, will provide flexible space for year-round activities, making it a true community asset.

A Proud Partner in Healthcare and Community:

Erlanger Health System, founded in 1889 and one of the region’s most respected healthcare providers, is a key partner in this development. Known for its comprehensive services—including the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, and the Southeast Regional Stroke Center—Erlanger continues to be a vital force in Chattanooga’s growth and well-being.

Looking Ahead:

As Chattanooga prepares for the debut of Erlanger Park, excitement continues to build for what promises to be a new chapter in the city’s history. With its historic roots, modern amenities, and community-focused design, Erlanger Park is set to become the region’s most unique multi-use venue — a place where memories are made, community bonds are strengthened, and Chattanooga’s legacy is celebrated for generations to come.
