Montague Park’s Sculpture Fields will host a heartfelt tribute to Olympic champion Olivia Reeves with a public event scheduled for Wednesday, June 12th, at 4:30 p.m. The celebration will feature the unveiling of a custom-designed sculpture created to honor Reeves’s remarkable achievements and character.
The highlight of the ceremony will be the reveal of a unique artwork crafted by Terry Karpowicz, a distinguished sculptor based in Chicago and the Curatorial Director at Sculpture Fields. This piece was thoughtfully designed to symbolize Olivia’s strength, resilience, and dedication, capturing the spirit of her historic victory.
Olivia Reeves, a Chattanooga native and Notre Dame High School graduate, recently earned her sociology degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Her triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics marked a historic milestone for U.S. weightlifting — she secured the nation’s first Olympic gold in the sport since Tara Nott’s win in Sydney in 2000.
Karpowicz’s artistic style often combines natural materials like wood and stone with industrial components such as steel, creating compositions that explore the dynamic interplay between contrasting forces. Inspired by Olivia’s perseverance, focus, and composure under pressure, the sculpture embodies resilience and collective pride.
The event will feature brief remarks from park officials and Olivia herself, culminating in the official unveiling of the sculpture. The community is invited to join this special celebration honoring an athlete who has put Chattanooga on the world stage.
