Don’t Have A Real ID? It Could Cost You $45
The TSA will begin charging a $45 fee on February 1st for travelers who arrive at airport checkpoints without a REAL ID or passport. The agency said Monday that the fee supports the next phase of its REAL ID program, requiring travelers without compliant identification to verify their identity through biometric or biographic systems.
If you do not have a REAL ID, visit TSA.gov and follow the instructions listed to verify your identity and pay the fees once it goes into effect next year. Verified travelers will receive a confirmation email valid for up to ten days. Verification could take up to 30 minutes and there is no guarantee that you will be cleared to fly.
