The Oscar nominees were announced yesterday, and it was a good day for Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners”. It broke the record for most nominations for a single film, with 16.
The previous mark was 14, shared by “All About Eve”, “Titanic”, and “La La Land”.
“Sinners” is up for Best Picture, Best Director for Coogler, Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, Best Supporting Actor for Delroy Lindo, and Best Supporting Actress for Wunmi Mosaku.
“One Battle After Another” came in second with 13 nods, including acting nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn. And Best Picture, of course.
The other Best Picture nominees are “Bugonia”, “Frankenstein”, “F1”, “Hamnet”, “Marty Supreme”, “The Secret Agent”, “Sentimental Value”, and “Train Dreams”.
Speaking of records: After being nominated as the star AND producer of “Bugonia”, Emma Stone is now the youngest woman to get to seven Oscar nods, at the age of 37. Meryl Streep was 38 when she did it in 1988.
Walt Disney reached seven at the age of 34, and Emma is second only to him.
Here’s who DIDN’T get Oscar love: “Wicked: For Good”. They were SHUT OUT.
Even though “Frankenstein” is up for Best Picture, Guillermo del Toro did NOT get a nomination for Best Director.
“The Smashing Machine” didn’t get much love, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson didn’t get the Best Actor nomination he was probably hoping for.
And “Avatar: Fire and Ash” only got TWO nominations, for Visual Effects and Costumes. It’s the first movie in the franchise NOT to be nominated for Best Picture.
The Oscars go down Sunday, March 15th on ABC. Conan O’Brien is returning to host.
