Former D.A.R.E. Officer Pleads Guilty To Selling Drugs While On Duty
Former upstate New York police officer Michael Tapscott pleaded guilty to 40 drug-related charges after admitting he sold prescription drugs while on duty. The 13-year veteran was caught selling dextroamp-amphetamine, a generic form og Adderall, at a Route 14 car dealership while operating his patrol car. Tapscott served as a D.A.R.E. instructor, teaching kids to avoid drugs, before resigning May 6th, one day before facing charges. Under his plea deal, he’ll serve 16 weekends in jail and five years probation. The investigation began in April 2025 following a tip about a uniformed officer selling controlled substances from a marked vehicle. Authorities discovered Tapscott solicited both civilians and fellow officers to buy and sell drugs on and off duty. Three others, including two officers, were also indicted.
