California Driver Busted Using Jacket As Fake Carpool Lane Passenger

A California driver was cited after using an empty jacket to impersonate a passenger in a Los Angeles County carpool lane. California Highway Patrol officers spotted the suspicious “passenger” on Interstate 10 near West Covina. “That ‘passenger’ turned out to be a jacket carefully wrapped around the front seat with the seat belt fastened across it to resemble a person,” CHP officials said in a social media post. “Nice try — but jackets don’t count toward carpool lane requirements.” Authorities emphasized that carpool lanes are reserved only for vehicles meeting proper occupancy requirements. “Fictitious friends and mannequin copilots won’t cut it,” officials wrote.
