New Ozempic Side Effect……Divorce
According to new research, people who undergo rapid weight loss are “twice as likely to divorce.” The study focused on people who had been fitted with gastric bands, but the idea is that it could extend to the rise in GLP-1 drugs.
According to the study of 12,500 married patients, more than 14% divorced “within six years” of losing a lot of weight, compared with 8% among the wider population. Experts believe there are several reasons this may be happening.
For one, people who commit to weight loss treatments like this are clearly comfortable making big life changes. “They’re probably becoming more social, and trying to live a healthier life.” If their partner isn’t on that same trajectory, it could cause tension.
Also: Losing weight may make them feel more self-confident about moving on, particularly if the relationship isn’t in a good or happy place. An expert says, “It’s not that losing a large amount of weight is ending healthy marriages.” This is about people trying to IMPROVE their lives. It’s worth pointing out: Studies into the link between weight loss drugs and divorce rates would need to follow people for a long time . . . and since these drugs are relatively new, it’ll be a few years before we’ll get some real data.
