WTCI PBS is set to host “Be My Neighbor Day,” a FREE fun-filled community event, at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The family-friendly celebration offers a variety of activities for children of all ages and a special chance to meet beloved PBS KIDS characters, including Carl the Collector, Lyla from Lyla in the Loop, and Daniel Tiger. The Chattanooga Lookouts are proud sponsors of this community event.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Bob Culkeen, President and CEO of WTCI PBS, shared, “Many of us carry fond memories of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and the lessons of kindness and caring it taught. These values continue to resonate through Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and we’re excited to partner with the Bessie Smith Cultural Center to bring this community celebration to life. It promises to be a wonderful day in our neighborhood.”

The event will feature collaborations with numerous local organizations and vendors, including Scouting America, Soddy-Daisy Community Library, Hamilton County Health Department, Art 120, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga, the City of Chattanooga, and Signal Centers/Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Attendees can enjoy a range of educational activities, music, art projects, a touch-a-truck station, and more.

Paula Wilkes, President of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to join WTCI PBS in celebrating our community. Families will have the opportunity to explore our museum and learn about the rich African American history that shapes our city.”
