The Celebrity Beat…
Lizzo’s new album… the title of which is just the B-word … failed to chart on the Billboard 200 when it dropped on June 5th. It sold less than 3,000 copies. And that hurt. In a new interview, she calls it “soul-crushing.”
She adds, quote, “I was really stressed and I was really sad for a few days because I just was like, ‘Wait a minute. This is like, some of my best stuff.’ And I had to come to terms with the fact that not only is the music industry different in the last three years… but also my relationship and my connection musically with the world is different. And I think I had to kind of mourn that.”
But after a pep talk with SZA, along with some prayer and meditation, Lizzo learned to be proud of the work and not, quote, “judge myself and my success or my impact on numbers.”
She now thinks of the album as, quote, “a stepping stone in the right direction.”
