A “Friday the 13th” Prequel Series Is in the Works

At a time when it seems like every horror property is being dug up and re-animated, the one title that HASN’T come up is “Friday the 13th”.

But that’s only because the rights had been tied up in court for years.

But everything’s settled now, and a PREQUEL SERIES is in development at Peacock.  No plot details have been announced yet.  But there’s talk it could be something like the “Psycho” prequel series “Bates Motel”.

Remember, Jason’s backstory is that his mom was the cook at Camp Crystal Lake, and he DROWNED because the counselors were too busy having PREMARITAL SEX to watch him.

So, in the original “Friday the 13th” movie, SHE’S the killer, offing the new counselors to prevent the camp from re-opening.  Jason only appears in a jump-scare at the very end of the film.

“Bates Motel” was about the twisted relationship between Norman and his mother BEFORE the events of “Psycho” … so if you’re hoping for the Jason with the hockey mask and the machete, that might not be what this is.
