The Frivolous Files…
It’s been 12 years since the first “John Wick” came out, and some guy who claims it was stolen from him has FINALLY gotten around to doing something about it.
A writer named J.R. Wicker is suing for at least $10 million, saying “John Wick” is, quote, “strikingly and substantially similar” to a screenplay he wrote called “Blood for Escobar”.
Both stories are about a widowed, retired, middle-age assassin who’s reluctantly dragged back into the criminal underworld and goes on a killing spree against an international society of hitmen.
Both also start with a home invasion in which the hero’s pet is killed, and include an action sequence at a nightclub. These are just SOME of the similarities listed in the lawsuit.
Why did Wicker wait so long to file suit? He claims he only just saw “John Wick” LAST YEAR.
So the question before the court of opinion is simple? Do you think this lawsuit is justified or completely frivolous?
