Chattanooga Launches ‘Liberty Bell Scavenger Hunt’ to Celebrate America’s 250th and Constitution Week

The America 250 Hamilton County Birthday Party Committee is set to launch an engaging new event in celebration of the county’s rich history and its role in the nation’s founding. Starting September 17th, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a Liberty Bell-themed scavenger hunt across Chattanooga, using the FREE Goosechase App to explore local landmarks and learn about the area’s historical significance.
The scavenger hunt coincides with Constitution Week and will run through October 5th. Participants will search for 50 decorated Liberty Bells hidden throughout the community, placed at various businesses, government buildings, and homes. The bells have been generously donated by Siskin Steel and Supply Co., which expressed pride in contributing to commemorating Chattanooga’s part in the country’s 250-year history.
Kicking off at the Medal of Honor Heritage Center during the annual Bells Across America event, the hunt will be launched with a ceremony hosted by the Chickamauga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This event honors the tradition of bell ringing that dates back to the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, symbolizing patriotism and historical remembrance.
Participants will have the chance to win prizes in multiple categories, including awards for the most creatively decorated Liberty Bell. The contest aims to foster community engagement while educating residents about Chattanooga’s pivotal role during the Revolutionary War era and its contributions to American history.
The committee’s chair, Marti Rutherford, emphasized the community’s historical significance as a frontier outpost during the Revolution and expressed hopes that the scavenger hunt will deepen the community’s connection to its heritage. This initiative is part of broader efforts to mark Tennessee’s 250th anniversary and follows other popular events, such as the July 4th celebration at Ross’s Landing.
Constitution Week serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and understanding the U.S. Constitution, which laid the groundwork for American democracy. The week’s events, hosted at the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center, also highlight Chattanooga’s historical importance as the site of the first Medal of Honor recipient’s heroism, further celebrating the community’s enduring legacy in American history.
