The Chattanooga City Council is inviting residents to participate in a town hall this Wednesday, June 3rd, to discuss the city’s ongoing historic preservation efforts. The session will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers located at 1000 Lindsay Street. Citizens can also contribute their feedback through an online survey.

The town hall coincides with the launch of Preserve Chattanooga’s new initiative aimed at developing a comprehensive historic preservation plan for the city. This upcoming plan seeks to balance Chattanooga’s growth with the protection and celebration of its unique historical sites and neighborhoods.

The process for creating the plan emphasizes community involvement, ensuring that residents’ voices influence decisions on topics such as historic districts, design review procedures, preservation priorities, and incentive programs. Preservation professionals will guide the development process, but public input remains central to shaping the final document.

To facilitate community participation, a brief online survey has been made available. It takes approximately seven minutes to complete and is designed to gather residents’ opinions and values related to the future of Chattanooga’s historic preservation efforts. The survey is completely anonymous, encouraging honest and open feedback.

This initiative represents a significant step toward safeguarding the city’s heritage while supporting its ongoing development, and local residents are encouraged to share their perspectives both in person and online. Click here to take the survey.
