Turns out, Viagra can give you a whole different kind of boost.

UK researchers tested erectile dysfunction drugs and found some of them, including Viagra, can improve how patients respond to chemotherapy.

Participants in the study had esophageal cancer, but doctors are hopeful that the effects could carry into fighting other forms.

Viagra works by making involuntary muscles relax, which increases blood flow to…certain areas.

According to this study, the relaxing effect also impacts cancer fibroblasts, which help cancers grow.

Dr. Sam Godfrey says the drug effectively knocks down the scaffolding cancers are built with. “Knocking down that scaffolding is one of many ways that we could use to treat cancer more effectively in the future,” he said.
