English Island With 14th Century Castle Seeks King or Queen
Here's how to establish your very own monarchy!
After the previous monarchy bounced last summer, the English island of Piel is looking for its new king or queen.
The 50-acre Piel Island is looking for a new monarch – and you don’t even have to come from royal blood to apply for the gig. You just have to know the island’s history.
The new ruler of Piel Island will enjoy a 14th-century castle, stunning sunsets, seal sightings – and responsibilities like running the island’s pub and cleaning the campsites and their toilets.
The island’s council also warns that its leader must enjoy their alone time since the island is quite isolated and only accessible by ferry…and in what sounds like a moment in live-action role-playing games, the new “landlord is crowned in a ceremony of uncertain origin, in which they sit in an ancient chair, wearing a helmet and holding a sword while alcohol is poured over their head.”
