Lorde Speaks Out Against Supreme Court Ruling
When Lorde took the stage at the Glastonbury festival over the weekend, she spoke her mind about the Supreme Court overturning of Roe v. Wade.
While singing “Secrets From a Girl (Who’s Seen It All),” she went off script for an impassioned speech reminding her female fans just how sacred their right to choose for themselves is — or should be.
She said, “Wanna hear a secret, girls? Your bodies were destined to be controlled and objectified since before you were born. That horror is your birthright.”
She went on to tell her audience that they possess strength and wisdom and encouraged them to access that to make a difference. “Because everything depends on it.”
She concluded with a direct message to the Supreme Court, whose vote takes away a woman’s right to have an abortion… She said, “F–k the Supreme Court.”
Lorde is one of many musicians denouncing the court’s decision, a few of the others include Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, and Billie Eilish.
