Chattanooga, TN – In a proactive effort to bolster campus safety and emergency response readiness, Chattanooga State has announced a comprehensive simulated active shooter training scheduled for Wednesday, August 9th, 2023. The main campus will be temporarily closed from 7 AM to 1 PM on that day to facilitate the drill, which aims to equip first responders with crucial skills and strategies.
The simulated active shooter training is a collaborative effort between Chattanooga State’s Campus Police, the Chattanooga Police Department, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and Hamilton County Emergency Operations Center. By partnering with local law enforcement agencies, the institution is taking a proactive approach to ensuring the safety of its students, staff, and visitors.
During the closure period, first-responder participants will engage in a series of simulated scenarios designed to replicate real-life active shooter situations. By practicing essential procedures and coordination strategies, these professionals will enhance their ability to respond effectively in high-stress situations. The goal is to promote a swift and unified response to potential active shooter incidents, ultimately saving lives and minimizing harm.
Chief Dan Renegar, Chattanooga State’s Chief of Police, emphasized the significance of such training, stating, “Active shooter training plays a vital role in preparing our community to respond to emergency situations. By familiarizing ourselves with these protocols, we empower ourselves to take quick and decisive actions, potentially saving lives. It is crucial that we work together to create a safer campus environment.”
To ensure the success of the training and the safety of all participants, Chattanooga State is kindly requesting the cooperation of students, employees, and the public. During the closure period from 7 AM to 1 PM, individuals are urged to refrain from visiting the main campus.
Following the completion of the simulated active shooter training, the campus will reopen promptly at 1:00 PM on August 9th.
