In The Know with Gino: IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga Triathlon Returns to the Scenic City

Chattanooga, TN – The highly anticipated IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga triathlon is set to make its return to the Scenic City on Sunday, May 21st. The event promises to showcase top professional triathletes from around the world as they embark on a challenging course that includes a 1.4 mile swim down the Tennessee River, a 56 mile bike ride through Chickamauga, and a 13.1 mile run through downtown Chattanooga.

The triathlon will kick off with a rolling start, where athletes will enter the water and head straight down the Tennessee River for a thrilling swim. Spectators will have an excellent vantage point to watch this leg of the race from the Veterans and Market Street Bridges as well as the Tennessee Riverwalk.

Following the swim, athletes will transition to the bike course, which will take them 11 miles south of town before embarking on a captivating 34 mile loop in north Georgia. Along the way, participants will be treated to breathtaking views as they parallel the majestic Lookout Mountain. The rolling course and well-maintained road surfaces will provide an ideal setting for the cyclists. As the riders near the end of the loop, they will have the unique opportunity to pass through the historic town of Chickamauga, adding a touch of charm to the race.

Once the bike leg is completed, the athletes will commence the final stage of the triathlon, a 13.1 mile run that will take them through the heart of downtown Chattanooga. Participants will have the chance to experience the beauty of the Scenic City as they complete two loops through downtown, the Tennessee Riverwalk, Veterans Bridge, North Shore, Walnut Street Bridge, and the stunning Riverfront Parkway. Excitingly, the organizers have made improvements to the run course for this year’s event, eliminating two short out-and-back sections while extending the Riverwalk portion to enhance the flow and simplicity of the course.

Spectators lining the streets of downtown Chattanooga will have an unparalleled opportunity to cheer on the athletes as they approach the finish line at Ross’s Landing along the picturesque Tennessee River.
