The Celebrity Beat…

You know that scene in “Pretty Woman” when a saleswoman dismisses and judges Julia Roberts?  Well, Kelly Clarkson said she recently had a similar experience at a store in Brooklyn.

Quote, “Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me. Wow, dude.  You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale.  Y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts’ character in ‘Pretty Woman’.  For sure, check it out.”

The store denied Kelly’s story, claiming that the item she wanted to buy wasn’t for sale. Kelly responded by calling them LIARS.

So, did Art of Play give Kelly Clarkson the “Pretty Woman” treatment or not?  That’s still not totally clear.

What IS clear is that Kelly’s fans have been making life hell for everyone associated with the store.

Co-owner Adam Rubin says, quote, “This is a reprehensible abuse of power.  We have to reconsider the place we give celebrities in our society.”

He adds, quote, “It’s been so intense; thousands of hateful phone calls, thousands of hateful text messages, Kelly Clarkson fans demanding we issue her an apology.  And it’s just such a perverse distortion of reality.”

Rubin says he and his staff have been tracked down and harassed on social media, and even his friends and neighbors have been doxxed.  Quote, “This is not how you can behave as a citizen in the world.”
