The Nehemiah Project R3 is set to celebrate its 26th anniversary of transforming lives through community service with a monumental Backpack Pack Day. Scheduled for this Saturday, July 18, 2026, the event aims to pack an incredible 12,000 backpacks to be distributed to area students at the start of the new school year.
This year’s milestone event will be held in a lively warehouse environment, offering a family-friendly atmosphere where volunteers of all ages can come together to make a difference. Participants can choose from two packing sessions: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
It’s a wonderful way to kick off the school year and ensure students have the supplies they need to succeed.
Volunteers are encouraged to dress comfortably and wear closed-toed shoes for safety and comfort during the packing process. While the organization would love for volunteers to stay for the entire session, they understand busy schedules and appreciate any amount of time participants can give. Those with limitations on standing or being on their feet are asked to communicate their needs so that suitable roles can be provided.
In addition to packing, volunteers are asked to complete a Volunteer Agreement with the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, with whom Nehemiah Project R3 is partnering once again this year. This collaboration aims to enhance the volunteer experience and maximize the impact of the event.
Anyone interested in volunteering can visit nehemiahr3.org to complete the necessary paperwork. The organization invites community members to join in this meaningful effort to support local students and celebrate 26 years of service.
