On My Radar: ADÉLA – “Ain’t In LA”

Omr Adela

Every once in a while, I like to shine a spotlight on an artist or song that I think deserves a little more attention.

Welcome back to On My Radar—where I introduce you to music that may not be everywhere just yet, but I think is worth knowing.

This week, I’m putting ADÉLA on your radar with her new song “Ain’t In LA.”

You may actually recognize ADÉLA. She was one of the contestants on The Debut: Dream Academy, the reality competition that ultimately led to the creation of KATSEYE. Now, she’s stepping out on her own and building a name for herself as a solo pop artist.

And “Ain’t In LA” is a pretty fantastic introduction.

The song is inspired by ADÉLA’s own journey from Slovakia to Los Angeles and the dreams that brought her there.

But the message goes much further than that. It’s about all the people with big dreams who come from places that aren’t traditionally seen as the center of the entertainment world.

The inspiration came from photos of ADÉLA’s mother at 18, standing in front of a wall covered in Western pop-culture posters that her grandfather had smuggled into communist-era Czechoslovakia. Seeing those photos made ADÉLA think about all the talented people around the world who may never get the recognition they deserve simply because they’re not in the right place.

And that’s what makes “Ain’t In LA” more than just a catchy pop song. It’s confident, playful and full of personality, but underneath it is a pretty powerful message: you don’t have to be in Hollywood to be a star.

ADÉLA’s debut album PRIMA arrives September 4th, and if “Ain’t In LA” is any indication, she may be an artist worth getting to know now.
