Food News!

Papa Johns doesn’t seem like the most sophisticated brand… even with that complementary peperoncino pepper.

But THIS might change your mind:

Papa Johns recently partnered with NBCUniversal and Instacart, to collect data on when various people might be out of groceries, and may be more vulnerable to ordering pizza.

Basically, Instacart would say what day of the week people usually order a restock.  Then, in the days leading up to that day, Papa Johns would serve those people pizza ads during Peacock and NBC Universal streaming content.

The ad would even say, “Light on groceries?” or “Empty fridge?” … and then have a QR code to their app or website.  You may have already seen them.  The campaign launched a month or so ago… but they haven’t said if it’s working.

They did say their goal was to be helpful to hungry customers “without being too creepy,” but this seems to be straddling that line.  What do you say?  Are smart ads like this okay?  Or is it too much?
