Public Service Workers To Receive Billions In Student Loan Forgiveness
Do you qualify?
The Department of Education has expanded its student loan forgiveness program to eligible public service workers.
22,000 borrowers will immediately receive loan forgiveness totaling $1.74 billion while another 27,000 who meet service requirements will receive $2.82 billion in forgiveness.
Up to 550,000 Americans could have their student loans forgiven through the expansion, including teachers, nurses, government workers like those in the military, and nonprofit employees.
The Department of Education wrote “Borrowers who devote a decade of their lives to public service should be able to rely on the promise of Public Service Loan Forgiveness. The system has not delivered on that promise to date, but that is about to change for many borrowers who have served their communities and their country.”
