The Future Plans for AT&T Field Have Been Announced
Chattanooga, TN – In a surprise announcement today, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk revealed plans to turn the historic AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tennessee, into a rocket launch station for his private space exploration company.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the site, which has been home to the Chattanooga Lookouts minor league baseball team since it was built. Musk outlined his plans for the facility, which will be renamed the SpaceX Chattanooga Launch Station.
“We’re very excited to be expanding our launch capabilities to this location,” Musk said. “This is a fantastic site with great infrastructure and a lot of potential for our future missions.”
Musk explained that the launch site would be used for a variety of missions, including satellite launches, cargo resupply missions to the International Space Station, and potentially even manned missions to the moon and beyond.
The decision to use AT&T Field was reportedly made after SpaceX engineers evaluated several potential sites in the Southeastern United States. The field’s central location and existing infrastructure, including electrical and plumbing systems, made it an attractive option for the company.
The transition to a rocket launch site is expected to take several months, and SpaceX has said it will work closely with local officials to ensure a smooth transition. The company has not yet announced a timeline for its first launch from the site, but Musk hinted that it could happen as soon as next year.
“Chattanooga is now officially part of the space race,” Musk said. “We’re excited to see what the future holds.”
