What is HIIT?

Working Out

When scrolling the internet to find the best way to burn fat or the best cardio to get six pack abs you probably came across HIIT; High Intensity Interval Training. HIIT is a workout that alternates between short periods of vigorous activity followed by longer periods of  less intense activity or even rest. An example of this would be sprinting 30 seconds and then lightly jogging and or walking for a minute and then repeating that sequence for about 10-15 minutes. Below are just a few of the benefits of incorporating HIIT into your workout routine, but if you are going to do this make sure you check with your doctor especially if you have had heart issues or have joint problems. These workouts can be intense and provide great results but if you have questions if this would be good for you, please consult your physician.

1. It’s Efficient

You can reap better benefits and results than a long time consuming workout like running or walking on a treadmill for an hour.  You could do a 15 minute HIIT workout on your lunch break and still have time to grab a bite to eat and get back to work.

2. You Can Do It Anywhere

Whether at home, in your office or at the gym, if you have 10-15 minutes you can knock out a good workout.

3. There’s No Equipment Necessary

Running, biking, jump roping, and rowing all work great for HIIT, but you don’t need any equipment to get it done. High knees, fast feet, or anything plyometric like jumping lunges work just as well to get your heart rate up fast and reap the benefits of HIIT
