Eggs are a great source of protein and a solid way to start your day. But not all egg preparations are created equal.
Here are the most popular egg cooking methods, ranked from healthiest to least healthy, at least when it comes to calories:
1. Poached eggs – they contain 72 calories, 5 grams of fat, and 6.5 grams of protein.
2. Boiled eggs – 77 calories, 5.3 grams of fat, and 6.3 grams of protein.
3. Eggs fried in butter – 113 calories, 7.5 grams of fat, and 7.5 grams of protein.
4. Eggs fried in olive oil or avocado oil – 118 calories, 9.9 grams of fat, and 7.5 grams of protein.
5. And the least-healthy method was: Scrambled eggs made with milk and butter – 128 calories, 13 grams of fat, and 8 grams of protein.
Okay, that’s enough food science for the day. Now excuse me while I go scramble my eggs with extra milk and butter… and some bacon grease, too.
