1885 Grill, a well-known restaurant in the St. Elmo community, has announced the permanent closure of its flagship location. The decision to close was driven by ongoing challenges related to maintenance, parking, and operational costs.

The restaurant’s owners expressed their gratitude to the community for their support over the years. They highlighted the meaningful relationships formed during their time in St. Elmo and emphasized that these connections hold special significance.

Attempts were made to purchase the original building to address some of the necessary improvements, but the owners reported that their offer was declined. Since opening in St. Elmo in 2013, 1885 Grill has expanded its presence to Ooltewah and plans to open a new location in Chickamauga this spring.

To support their staff through the transition, all employees at the St. Elmo location were offered positions at the Ooltewah restaurant and the upcoming Chickamauga branch. The owners expressed a sense of gratitude despite the difficult decision to close, and they remain optimistic about future opportunities and continued community engagement.

The closure marks the end of an era for the popular eatery in St. Elmo, but the owners look forward to reconnecting with old friends and welcoming new patrons at their other locations in the coming months.
