Every Halloween, the old urban legend pops up… warning children about how there could be RAZORBLADES in their haul of chocolate.
Well, a new study from George Washington University says that many kinds of chocolate may be BAD for us because of the metal inside. But not razorblades… these are “toxic heavy metals.”
Researchers analyzed 72 consumer cocoa products, including dark chocolate, over an eight month period… for contamination with lead, cadmium, and arsenic.
43% of the products exceeded the maximum allowable dose for lead… 35% exceeded the maximum allowable dose level for cadmium… but none exceeded the maximum for arsenic.
Surprisingly, “organic“-labeled products showed HIGHER levels of lead and cadmium, compared to non-organic products.
One researcher says it’s not practical to avoid heavy metals in ALL our food… but “you must be cautious of what you are eating, and how much.”
