Chatt It Up Sports Olympic Recap: Week 1
The first week of the 2024 Summer Olympics has been a thrilling showcase of athleticism and achievement, with Team USA making significant strides across various sports.
Team USA kicked off the Olympics in impressive fashion, securing a total of 12 medals, including three golds. Highlights included Torri Huske‘s gold in Women’s 100-Meter Butterfly, the men’s swimming team’s gold in the 100-Meter Freestyle Relay, and Lee Kiefer‘s victory in Women’s Foil fencing.
The following days saw Team USA continue to excel, adding to their medal tally with standout performances in gymnastics, swimming, and other events. Simone Biles made a triumphant return, leading the Women’s Gymnastics team to a gold medal and becoming the most decorated American gymnast in history with 8 Olympic medals. Katie Ledecky further cemented her legacy with a gold and a silver, making her the most decorated U.S. female Olympian.
As of the end of the first week, Team USA leads the overall medal count with 37 medals, followed by France, 27, China, 24, Great Britain, 20, and Australia, 18. Plus, we jumped from seventh to SECOND place in the gold medal count. China still led with 11, then Team USA with 9, and 8 each for France, Australia, and Japan.
The 2024 Olympics have been marked by historic achievements and memorable performances from Team USA athletes, setting the stage for an exciting second week of competition.
