Chattanooga’s Empty Bowls Event Aims to Alleviate Food Insecurity
The Scenic City will come together tomorrow on November 13th for the annual Empty Bowls event, an initiative designed to combat food insecurity within the community. Hosted by the Be The Change Youth Initiative and Scenic City Clay Arts, the event will be held at The Signal from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, promising an evening filled with compassion, creativity, and community spirit.
Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement that has gained traction across the nation, aiming to address hunger one bowl at a time. This year’s event will feature handcrafted ceramic bowls created by local artisans, community members, and students, ensuring that each guest leaves with a unique souvenir. Attendees will enjoy a simple yet delicious meal of soup, salad, bread, and dessert, courtesy of some of Chattanooga’s finest restaurants including Mac’s Kitchen and Bar, Number 10, Clever Alehouse, Niedlov’s, Carving Rock Kitchen, The Better Bakery, and Nothing Bundt Cakes.
“Food insecurity is a pressing issue in Chattanooga, affecting thousands of families every day,” said Sydney Guerrette, Founder and President of Be The Change Youth Initiative. “This event is not just about raising funds; it’s about raising awareness and fostering a sense of community action against hunger that impacts our students.”
The evening will be accentuated with live entertainment, featuring local podcaster Malcolm Harris as emcee and music from indie duo In The Company Of Wolves. Additionally, guests can look forward to a signature cocktail crafted by Chattanooga Whiskey, the event’s official specialty drink sponsor.
A portion of the proceeds from Empty Bowls will help parents manage school food debt, lightening the financial burden that often comes with ensuring their children have access to nutritious meals. The event aims to catalyze a sustainable solution to food insecurity, enabling local students to thrive both at school and at home.
“This is our second year hosting Empty Bowls, and we believe it will continue to grow in impact,” said Guerrette. “We’re not just filling bowls; we’re filling hearts and minds with hope and community support.”
Tickets for the event are available online for $75, with 50% of the proceeds going directly to local hunger relief efforts. For those interested in further supporting the cause, donations can be arranged through contacting Deirdre Catlett, Operations Director for Be The Change Youth Initiative.
Join them on November 13th at The Signal for a night that promises to make a difference. Together, we can fill empty bowls and provide hope to those in need.
