The Celebrity Beat…

Last night’s Grammys were just as much about the L.A. fires as they were the music.

The show even ended with local firefighters being brought onstage to be cheered by the crowd and to announce Album of the Year, which Beyoncé won for “Cowboy Carter”.

If you can believe it, this is Beyoncé’s first win in this category, despite four previous nominations.  Either way, she’s the most awarded and nominated artist in Grammy history.  “Cowboy Carter” also won Best Country Album.

In addition to honoring first responders, the show raised more than $7 million just from viewers watching at home.

There were several musical tributes to the city as well.  The show kicked off with the band Dawes leading an all-star band in a performance of Randy Newman’s I Love L.A.

And Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars teamed up on California Dreamin’” by the Mamas and the Papas.

There was also a surprise performance by The Weeknd…. so he’s obviously settled his beef with the Academy.

And Will Smith narrated a tribute to the late Quincy Jones, which included performances by Cynthia ErivoHerbie HancockLainey Wilson, and Stevie Wonder.

Capped off by Janelle Monae, who brought the house down with Michael Jackson‘sDon’t Stop ’til You Get Enough.

Drake had a bad night and he wasn’t even there, because Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” won multiple awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Chappell Roan picked up Best New Artist.
