The Latest “Serious Health Risk”: Paper Receipts

Thermal paper receipts often contain high levels of Bisphenol S (BPS), a “forever chemical” similar to BPA, which disrupts hormones by mimicking estrogen. BPS can be absorbed through the skin in just seconds, potentially affecting metabolism, development, and reproduction. Though not a new discovery, concern has resurfaced after a recent study by the Center for Environmental Health found excessive BPS levels in many receipts. CEH may sue retailers that don’t provide warnings. Experts advise consumers to opt for digital receipts and suggest employees handling receipts wear gloves.
