As Labor Day approaches, AAA is once again activating its ‘Tow to Go’ initiative in Tennessee and Georgia to promote road safety during one of the year’s busiest travel periods.
The program will be available from 6:00PM on Friday, August 29th, 2025, through 6:00 AM on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, offering FREE, confidential rides for impaired drivers and their vehicles within a 10-mile radius.
To utilize the service, individuals can call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246. The program is designed as a safety net for drivers who may have overindulged and need a safe way home, helping to prevent alcohol-related crashes and save lives.
With a history spanning over 25 years, ‘Tow to Go’ has played a significant role in reducing impaired driving incidents, assisting in the removal of nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from the roads. AAA emphasizes the importance of this service during Labor Day, a time when traffic volume peaks and the risk of accidents increases.
“Labor Day is intended for celebration, not tragedy,” said AAA spokesperson Stephanie Milani. “Impaired driving accounts for roughly one-third of all traffic fatalities each year. Simple steps like planning ahead with a designated driver or using programs like ‘Tow to Go’ can make a real difference in saving lives. We’re committed to providing this vital safety resource to protect families and prevent unnecessary loss during the holiday.”
Program Guidelines and Important Reminders:
– The service offers a confidential, local ride for one person and their vehicle within a 10-mile radius.
– It is available to both AAA members and non-members.
– Appointments are not scheduled in advance; the service is intended for those who did not plan ahead.
– AAA may coordinate alternative arrangements if needed to ensure a safe ride home.
– Availability may be limited in rural areas or during severe weather conditions.
Statistics underscore the importance of initiatives like ‘Tow to Go’: nearly one-third of all traffic deaths in the U.S. involve alcohol impairment. In 2023 alone, over 12,000 lives were lost in alcohol-related crashes—an average of one death every 42 minutes.
AAA urges travelers to make responsible choices, such as designating a sober driver, using rideshare services, or staying overnight if necessary. Programs like ‘Tow to Go’ are critical tools in reducing impaired driving and making holiday travel safer for everyone.
Together, communities can work toward a safer Labor Day weekend by prioritizing responsible behavior and taking advantage of available resources to prevent tragedies on the road.
