Rare Orange Lobster ‘Jean-Clawd’ Rescued From Store Tank, Released In Long Island Sound

A customer saved an extremely rare orange lobster from a grocery store tank and returned it to the ocean on Wednesday. Kyle Brancato spotted the unusual crustacean at Tops on Jefferson Road in Henrietta and purchased it to prevent it from being eaten. “I think the only reason it was still in the tank was people probably thought it had a disease or something,” Brancato told WHAM-TV. He set up a temporary saltwater tank before contacting Humane Long Island, which took custody of the lobster. The rescue group named it “Jean-Clawd Van Dam” and released it into Long Island Sound. Orange coloration occurs in only one out of every 30 million lobsters. (Story URL)
