The Celebrity Beat…

The film industry is gearing up for some intense showdowns and exciting new releases. First, we saw the phenomenon of “Barbenheimer,” when “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” opened on the same day, creating a cultural event that captured worldwide attention. Not long after, the rivalry continued with “Glicked,” featuring a face-off between “Gladiator 2” and “Wicked.”

Now, get ready for what’s being dubbed “DUNESDAY.”

On December 18th, two major blockbuster films—”Dune: Part 3” and “Avengers: Doomsday“—are set to hit theaters simultaneously. Industry insiders are already concerned about the potential chaos, with a major theater chain executive warning, “Someone’s gotta move. That’s a level of overwhelm that doesn’t make sense.”

After years of struggling, the prospect of both a highly anticipated “Avengers” film and a new “Dune” installment releasing at the same time could be too much to handle. Robert Downey Jr. even joked about the upcoming clash during an event with Timothée Chalamet, saying, “We’ll see if we’re still friends by then.”

Meanwhile, Disney has announced a major leadership change, with Josh D’Amaro taking over as CEO, replacing Bob Iger. As part of his first actions, D’Amaro revealed several upcoming movie release dates. The live-action “Lilo & Stitch 2” is scheduled for May 26th, 2028—timed perfectly for Memorial Day Weekend—building on the original’s impressive $1.03 billion global box office success. Additionally, “Incredibles 3” is set for June 16th, 2028, nearly ten years after “Incredibles 2” debuted in June 2018. Both films’ plot details remain under wraps, but their release dates signal Disney’s continued commitment to blockbuster franchises.

As the industry faces these colossal releases and strategic leadership shifts, audiences can expect an exciting few years ahead filled with epic battles on the big screen and new cinematic adventures.
