Have you ever refused to fry something at your home… because it’s such a hassle to properly dispose of used cooking oil? Well, good news: There are people who will take it off your hands: THIEVES.
The New York State Police are warning people about thieves who are attempting to steal USED COOKING OIL from local restaurants. They don’t always need to break in… they just siphon it from storage tanks.
Why? Apparently, this type of oil is valuable because it can be recycled into products like renewable fuels. And when there’s a robust market for anything, it’s an attractive target for thieves.
In one case, a guy in a van was caught with a garden hose connected to the restaurant’s used cooking containers, pumping oil into his van.
At least three people have been arrested this month alone for stealing used cooking oil, so maybe it’s the next “catalytic converter.”
