Eight Things That Are Wildly Overrated
Someone on Reddit just asked, “What’s something that sounds amazing in theory but becomes exhausting once you actually live it long term?”
Here are some of the best answers:
1. “Business travel. Everyone thinks it’s amazing. No one realizes the long hours, [crappy] meals, and bland hotels.”
2. “Living in Florida. I am much happier visiting a few times per year. Summers were rough.”
3. “Being a chef. People always think it’s cool and say things like, ‘I wish I could do something like that.’ Everyone knows being a chef is brutal, but it’s still heavily romanticized.”
4. “Making movies for a living. It’s a lot of hurry-up-and-wait. But it’s also physically brutal, hauling all the gear around, especially on location.”
5. “Being some form of artist, of any type . . . Painting sounds fun until you are on your 900th painting.”
6. “Live music. At some point, it just becomes exhausting. The people, the loud volume, the prices, the parking, the egos. I’ll just sit at home with some headphones, thanks.”
7. “Owning a boat. Things constantly go wrong and break, and you need to haul the boat out of the water and get it fixed for thousands of dollars.”
8. “Driving a sports car. Hard suspension. Uncomfortable seats. No space for anything.”
(What’s something you looked forward to, only to realize it got old fast? Check out the rest of the list here.)
