The city of Chattanooga is gearing up for a deeply meaningful event that will honor the lives lost and the sacrifices made a decade ago.
On July 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., the Tennessee Riverpark at The Wreath of Honor will host the “Ten Year Remembrance Tribute to the Fallen Five,” an annual ceremony organized by the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council (CAVC).
This year marks ten years since that tragic day in 2015, when four U.S. Marines and a Navy Sailor lost their lives in a terrorist attack that shook the community and the nation. Though time has passed, the memory of their bravery remains fresh in the hearts of Chattanoogans, who come together each year to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.
Captain Mickey McCamish, a retired U.S. Navy officer and the event’s emcee, expressed the significance of the upcoming tribute. “It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years. We gather to honor our heroes and to remind ourselves of the courage and sacrifice that define our community,” he said.
The ceremony will feature a series of heartfelt remarks from distinguished speakers, including U.S. Marine Brigadier General Kevin Jarrard, Chattanooga Mayor Kelly, Hamilton County Mayor Wamp, and Commander Tim White, a retired Navy officer who was in command during the attack. Local singer Melissa Bayless will lead the crowd in singing the National Anthem, filling the air with patriotic reverence.
As part of the tribute, U.S. Marines and Navy personnel will carefully place wreaths at the Five Pillars of the Wreath of Honor, symbolizing the enduring memory of each fallen hero. The event will culminate with a moving performance of “Amazing Grace” by Commander Diron Cundiff on bagpipes, a tradition that brings a sense of solemn reflection and unity.
Community members, veterans, families, and visitors are expected to gather in remembrance, paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The event promises to be a poignant reminder of the courage and resilience that define Chattanooga’s spirit—an occasion not only to honor the fallen but to reaffirm our collective commitment to never forget.
Preparations are underway to ensure a respectful and memorable ceremony. It will be a day to reflect, remember, and honor the heroes whose bravery continues to inspire generations.
