History enthusiasts and curious visitors alike will have the opportunity to explore the roots of American independence this September as the American Revolution Experience makes its debut at the downtown Chattanooga Public Library. The FREE, interactive exhibit will be on display on the library’s third floor from September 15th through September 24th, offering a compelling journey into the stories, artifacts, and key moments that shaped the birth of the nation.

Organized through a partnership between the Chattanooga Regent Council of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the American Battlefield Trust, the exhibit aims to connect modern audiences with the diverse individuals and events that defined the revolutionary era. Featuring engaging digital kiosks, illustrated panels, and authentic artifacts, the exhibit highlights the personal sacrifices and decisions made by ordinary citizens and heroes alike.

This exhibit is a wonderful way to bring history to life for our community,” said Jessica Sedgwick, Head of Local History & Genealogy at the Chattanooga Public Library. “With the nation approaching its 250th anniversary next year, it’s the perfect time to deepen our understanding of the struggles and triumphs that led to American independence.”

The exhibit’s opening coincides with several special events scheduled during Constitution Week, including workshops, proclamations, and community readings on September 17th. Visitors can participate in sessions on genealogy, explore the significance of the Constitution, and learn about the historical figures behind these foundational documents. Another set of events will take place on September 20th, featuring discussions with local historians and genealogists.

The American Revolution Experience originally launched online in 2022, earning acclaim and awards for its innovative storytelling and educational content. It includes twelve thematic panels, three interactive digital stations, and illustrations by artist Dale Watson, all designed to immerse visitors in the complex and multifaceted history of the revolution. The exhibit also draws from the collections of DAR and the Trust, combining primary documents with digital resources to provide a comprehensive view of the era.

This traveling exhibit showcases the diverse voices and experiences of those involved in the revolution,” explained Pamela Rouse Wright, President General of DAR. “From Patriots to Loyalists, from soldiers to civilians, each story contributes to a richer understanding of our shared history.”

The Chattanooga display is part of a nationwide tour, with the exhibit scheduled to remain at the DAR headquarters in Washington, D.C., after completing its run in Chattanooga. Local DAR chapters have played a vital role in bringing the exhibit to the community, emphasizing the importance of historic preservation and education.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibit, which offers insights into the lives of individuals who fought for independence, the battles they fought, and the global context of the revolution. The exhibit aims to inspire reflection on the enduring relevance of these historic struggles as the nation commemorates its 250th year.
