Are Dating Apps Killing Romance?

New research shows 70% of Gen Z users believe dating apps have made modern romance more superficial. A survey of 1,000 adults who used dating apps within five years found 22% of Gen Z consider them unhealthy, with 56% viewing them as games rather than meaningful connections. Surprisingly, Gen Z focuses least on appearance, with only 27% calling looks most important in profiles, compared to 36% of Millennials and 35% of Gen X and Boomers. Participants said just one-third of app users are “nice,” while 40% are “mean” or “weird.” Top red flags include long demand lists (31%), arrogance (25%), and filtered photos (25%). Users reported being ghosted seven times on average but only ghosting others five times. Nearly half (49%) prefer meeting partners at social events, through friends (48%), or hobbies (45%).
