Chattanooga, TN — In a heartfelt tribute to Veterans Day, Blood Assurance, a nonprofit regional blood center, announced today that it will be dedicating this Saturday’s blood drives to support the U.S. Special Forces Wounded Warrior Fund (SFWWF). For every individual donating blood at a mobile blood drive or donor center on November 11th, Blood Assurance pledges to contribute $5 to the SFWWF, a charitable organization focused on assisting members of the U.S. Special Forces who have been injured or fallen ill in the line of duty.
The initiative aims to encourage the community to participate actively in honoring and supporting our nation’s heroes. J.B. Gaskins, CEO of Blood Assurance and a 30-year Army veteran, expressed the significance of the campaign, stating, “Help a hero by being a hero this Saturday. It’s a very easy way for members of our community to rally around and give back to the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.”
Setting a goal of at least 300 donors this Saturday, Gaskins hopes for an even more significant turnout. The funds raised will contribute to covering costs for veterans and their families, providing crucial support just in time for the holiday season.
To participate, individuals can schedule an appointment or find a donor center or mobile drive by visiting www.bloodassurance.org/veteran2023, calling 800-962-0628, or texting ‘BAGIVE‘ to 999777.
To be eligible to donate blood, individuals must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in good health. Donors are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, avoiding caffeine, and eat a meal rich in iron before donating.
Founded in 1972, Blood Assurance serves over 70 healthcare facilities in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and Kentucky. The organization’s mission is to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components to every area patient in need.
