Jon Stewart Gets In Shouting Match In D.C. Over Veteran Bill

Jon Stewart is continuing his fight to pass a bill that will provide benefits to veterans. On Monday (August 1st), a video was released on Twitter showing the former Daily Show host shouting at conservative political commentator Jack Posobiec in D.C.

It is unclear exactly what happened before Stewart, in his own words, "lost his temper a little bit" and began shouting at the media personality. In a later video, it seems the pair made peace with one another, as it became clear Posobiec also wanted to get the bill passed.

"I felt like I was being trolled," Stewart said in the video. "I realized that the important thing is, we just got to get this done for these guys and get them over the finish line to get the health care they need."

Whoopi Goldberg Honors Nichelle Nichols On 'The View'

On Monday's (August 1st) episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg paid a special tribute to the legendary Nichelle Nichols, who died on Saturday (July 30th) at the age of 89. Nichols is most known for her role as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura on Star Trek: The Original Series. Goldberg later played Guinan on Star Trek: Next Generation.

"A trailblazer, a heroine, and an extraordinary woman—someone who inspired millions and millions of people but inspired me. Nichelle was the first Black person I'd ever seen who made it to the future," Goldberg said. She also referred to Nichols as "the one beacon that said, ‘Yes, we'll be there.'"

The Ghost actress added, "It just made me feel like that was an amazing thing and she helped propel other women to go into space. She was extraordinary and I was lucky enough to spend time with her over the years. She was my friend and she will be missed."

Zoe Saldana, who plays Uhura in a Star-Trek reboot, also honored the late Nichols on Monday (August 1st) with an Instagram post. "I'm saddened to learn of Nichelle Nichols' passing. We have lost a true star- a unique artist who was ahead of her time always. She's an icon, an activist and most importantly an amazing woman- who blazed a trail that has shown so many how to see women of color in a different light. Her strive for equality was unwavering," she wrote.

Luke Bryan And Peyton Manning To Co-Host CMA Awards

CMA Entertainer of the Year, Luke Bryan and one of the biggest names in NFL history, Peyton Manning will join forces to host The 56th Annual CMA Awards. Luke made the announcement on Monday (8-1) while guest hosting Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Through a press release, Luke stated, "We have become great friends through the years and what he brings to the table is gonna make it even more of a blast."

Manning, has attended the show in the past and commented, "I am such a huge fan of Country Music, so to have the chance to stand among so many incredibly talented artists is an absolute honor."
The star-studded event will air live from Nashville on November 9th on ABC. This will be Luke's second consecutive year to host the CMA Awards and Manning's first.

Nichelle Nichols Dies At 89

Nichelle Nichols, one of the first Black women to play a major role on primetime television, died on Saturday (July 30th) at the age of 89. Nichols was most known for her work on Star Trek: The Original Series as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, a role that Martin Luther King Jr. referred to as "the first non-stereotypical role portrayed by a Black woman in television history."

Nichols' son, Kyle Johnson, released a statement to her official website Sunday (July 31st). "Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural causes and passed away. Her light however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from, and draw inspiration," he wrote. "Hers was a life well lived and as such a model for us all."

The trailblazing actress portrayed one of the first interracial kisses on US television with her Star Trek costar William Shatner. Many stars took to social media to honor her legacy.

George Takei wrote, "I shall have more to say about the trailblazing, incomparable Nichelle Nichols, who shared the bridge with us as Lt. Uhura of the USS Enterprise, and who passed today at age 89. For today, my heart is heavy, my eyes shining like the stars you now rest among, my dearest friend." He added, "We lived long and prospered together." Four months after he slapped Chris Rock at the 94th annual Academy Awards, Will Smith is attempting to make amends. On Friday (July 29th), the King Richard actor released a video apology to Rock.

"I reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is he's not ready to talk, but when he is, he will reach out. I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I'm here whenever you're ready to talk," Smith said in the YouTube video.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor shared that he was "fogged out" following the infamous slap—and this is why he didn't apologize to Rock during his acceptance speech for Best Actor.

"Disappointing people is my central trauma. I hate when I let people down, so it hurts psychologically and emotionally to know that I didn't live up to people's image and impression of me. The work I'm trying to do is I am deeply remorseful, and I'm trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself," Smith said.

She adds, "I have to give 5 percent to my lawyer, 10 percent to my agents, 3 percent or something like that to my business manager. I have to pay my publicist every month, and that's more than my mortgage."

According to the actress, "They don't pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals."

Tony Dow Is Still Alive In Hospice Care

On Tuesday (July 26th), a statement was released on Tony Dow's official Facebook page that said the Leave It to Beaver actor had died. Many news outlets published obituaries for Dow, but the statement was later rescinded.

Dow's management team said that his wife, Lauren Shulkind, believed he had passed away—but it turned out that wasn't the case. "This morning Tony's wife Lauren, who was very distraught, had notified us that Tony had passed and asked that we notify all his fans. As we are sure you can understand, this has been a very trying time for her," an updated announcement said.

The statement continued, "We have since received a call from Tony's daughter-in-law saying that while Tony is not doing well, he has not yet passed. Tony's son Christopher and his daughter-in-law Melissa have also been by his side comforting him, and we will keep you posted on any future updates." Dow's son also told Fox News that he was still alive and was receiving hospice care in his "last hours."
