Twenty One Pilots’ Scaled and Icy era is over.  

The band’s 2021 record was “created and born in a time of uncertainty,” when touring was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  

Frontman Tyler Joseph wrote on Instagram, “we always wrote songs for the show, never the other way around. but i always wondered what it would be like to write a record that never existed in a concert setting. then we had no choice but to write that kind of record. so that’s what we tried.” 

The “Heathens” singer added, “71 shows and 14 countries later, scaled and icy became something different. the lyrics meant something different, something more, the colors found their purpose, the chords rubbed together differently. the record came to life. it was confirmed: this band and these specific songs needed live music.” 

After thanking the band’s crew, Joseph announced, “and that concludes ψ (Scaled and Icy trident symbol.)”

Miley Cyrus rang in the new year with the announcement that her latest single, “Flowers” will drop on January 13th. 

While hosting Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, a promo aired showing the “Prisoner" singer wearing a gold mini dress while a snippet of the forthcoming track played.  Clips posted to Instagram Sunday (January 1st) bore the caption, “NEW YEAR, NEW MILEY, NEW SINGLE. FLOWERS JANUARY 13.”

According to a press release, more announcements will be coming from the singer this week. 

SARA BAREILLES IS ENGAGED: Sara Bareilles is engaged.  The Girls5Eva star announced on Instagram Sunday (January 1st) that she plans to marry Mare of Easttown actor Joe Tippett.  The “Love Song” singer wrote, “The more I know you the more I know I love you…and you have introduced me to parts of myself I was afraid to love. And now I love ME more because of you.”

JISOO TO RELEASE SOLO ALBUM THIS YEAR: Jisoo is planning to release her first solo album this year.  The BLACKPINK singer told a fan on Weverse Saturday (December 31st), “Please wait for Jisoo’s solo album in 2023.”  

Foo Fighters have issued a statement on what the future holds for them without Taylor Hawkins. They posted via social media, "As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year that our band has ever known, we are reminded of how thankful we are for the people that we love and cherish most, and for the loved ones who are no longer with us."

The band continued, "Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and a continuation of life. And for the past 27 years our fans have built a worldwide community, a devoted support system that has helped us all get through the darkest of times together. A place to share our joy and our pain, our hopes and fears, and to join in a chorus of life together through music. Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were—and without Taylor, we know that we're going to be a different band going forward.

The band added, "We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you. And we know that when we see you again—and we will soon—he'll be there in spirit with all of us every night."

Harry Styles mom, Ann Twist is happy to have him home for the holidays.

On her Instagram page, she posted photos and as you flip through them, you'll see the family all together. A selfie shows her with Harry, his sister Gemma Styles and Gemma's longtime boyfriend Michal Mlynowski grinning ear to ear with their arms around one another.

"Christmas 2022," she captioned the series of four photos along with a smiley face, Christmas tree and red heart emoji. The slideshow shows off her holiday decorations and cozy fireplace, and the Christmas Day feast.

Styles is wrapping up a big year with wins including: album of the year at the 2022 MTV VMAs and six nominations for the upcoming 2023 Grammy Awards.

She donated lots of Christmas gifts that were distributed to babies, children and teenagers at four area hospitals in England.

Her kindness may have gone unnoticed if not for the facility posting on Instagram to thank her.

In 2017, a suicide bomber, blew himself up as fans were leaving Grande's concert in the northwest England city. The attack left 22 people dead, including an 8-year-old girl. 59 were wounded in the attack, 12 were children under the age of 16.

Following the tragedy, Manchester authorities named Grande an honorary citizen of the city for her work in the wake of the attack.

Finneas is not letting anyone talk down about his sister's relationship online. He defended Billie Eilish from an attack on her relationship with Jesse Rutherford, who's 10 years old than her.

A TikTok user commented to him, "Oh yeah? Well, your sister's dating a 31 year old man and your music is s***ty." Finneas whipped back, "I want my sister to be happy and safe and she is a 21-year-old adult perfectly entitled to make her own life decisions."

The Grammy-winning producer expressed a similar sentiment regarding Eilish's relationship and said, "Listen, as long as she's happy, I'm happy."

BTS member, RM has scored his first top 10-charting album. Indigo re-entered the list at # 3 following its CD release on Dec. 16. RM now becomes the first member of BTS to earn a solo Top 10 album on the Billboard 200.

Spice Girls singer Melanie Chisholm withdrew from a New Year's Eve concert in Poland to support the LGBTQ+ community. She posted: "In light of some issues that have been brought to my attention that do not align with the communities that support, I'm afraid I will no longer be able to perform in Poland as planned." Her decision was widely praised by her fans, however Poland's ruling Law and Justice party has been criticized around the world for being anti-LGBTQ+.

Now that Weezer has released the final EP in their SZNZ (pronounced Seasons) series, frontman Rivers Cuomo says it's left him with some depression.

He said, "This always happens after we finish working on an album. It really occupied most of my time for the last couple of years."

He described working on the band's music as "an incredible joy" but then afterwards he goes through a phase where, as he put it, "I don't know who I am or what I'm supposed to be doing."

As for the next project, Cuomo announced recently that Weezer is part of an upcoming television special that will honor The Beach Boys. Plus they'll be announcing a big tour soon.

Miley Cyrus has asked to be taken off of Morrissey's upcoming album called Bonfire Of Teenagers. She recorded backing vocals for one of the unreleased songs almost two years ago. This happened as Morrissey announced on social media that he would be leaving Capitol Records.

There were several big artists that lent their talents for the record, including Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and Flea, as well as Iggy Pop.

Morrissey's new album was originally due for release in February. Now the date is unknown.

Dressed for the holiday, she wore a red and white, off-the-shoulder Santa-inspired short dress. Trimmed in white fur just like St. Nick, she also sported long gloves and candy cane earrings.

In other Coldplay news… Earlier this month, singer Chris Martin revealed that the band was in the studio. So next year should bring new music.

On the first day of Winter, December 21, Weezer released another EP from their project based on seasons of the year. The new one is simply called SZNZ: Winter.

Rivers Cuomo described it in comparison to the others in the collection and called it, "The most meditative of the bunch."

He explained and said, "For each of the four seasons, I set myself the goal of focusing on a specific emotion. And for winter, it was sadness. And so I just kept meditating on sadness. And I guess that manifested as loneliness and a need for companionship and understanding."

In the interview with Consequence of Sound, he also announced that the band is getting ready to make a big tour announcement sometime soon. No other details were revealed.

Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl continues to post videos of his Hanukkah Sessions cover series.

A clip from Pink performing "Get the Party Started" has been a favorite this week among his fans.

Each year he teams with friend/musician/producer Greg Kurstin to put on a concert to celebrate the life and work of Jewish musicians and cover their music. The two of them also backed Kurstin's bandmate Inara George to perform a 70's classic from 10cc called "The Things We Do For Love." As a bonus, Tenacious D's Jack Black added background harmony. Earlier this week they did a version of Blood, Sweat & Tears' "Spinning Wheel."

Meghan Trainor is hoping to expand her family in the new year.

The 28-year-old mom told People Tuesday (December 20th) that it's her "dream" to get pregnant in 2023. She said, "I'm trying to make four children, so I've got to get on it."

Trainor added, "After having a baby, I was like, there's nothing I can't do. So now I'm just trying to knock off all my dreams on my dream list."

The "All About that Bass" singer and her husband, Daryl Sabara, are parents to one-year-old son, Riley.

A rough timeline for a new Blink-182 album has emerged from guitarist Tom DeLonge. He posted that it's "coming in a few months." Other member have dropped hints, as we reported this week, drummer Travis Barker also posted a video from the studio.

DeLonge's comeback to Blink was announced in October and "Edging," their first single with him in over a decade, has now been at the top of the charts for seven weeks.

The band will kick off a world tour beginning March 11 in Tijuana, Mexico.

Justin Bieber says that H&M's unauthorized merch collection is "trash."

On Monday (December 19th), the Drew House founder announced on his Instagram Stories that the Swedish clothing company launched a line with his likeness without permission.

He wrote, "I didn't aprove sic any of the merch collection that they put up at H&M, all without my permission and approval SMH."

The Drew House founder added, "I wouldn't buy it if I were you. The H&M Merch they made of me is trash and I didn't approve it don't buy it."

The collection features several pieces bearing images of the "Peaches" singer, the words "World Tour," and lyrics to his song "Ghost."
