In The Know with Gino…

Chattamatters, a cherished source of local news and community information, is excited to announce an opportunity for Hamilton County residents to become Community Listening Ambassadors. This paid position invites individuals to engage with their friends and neighbors to gather insights on how people access local news and information.

In an effort to amplify diverse voices from the community, Chattamatters is looking for ambassadors who have deep ties to their neighborhoods and are eager to listen to the perspectives of those around them. “This initiative aims to bridge gaps in our community’s understanding of local news needs,” said Mary Helen Montgomery, project coordinator at Chattamatters. “We want to hear from residents of all backgrounds, as everyone’s experience matters in shaping a comprehensive local news dialogue.”

What They’re Looking For:

Chattamatters encourages applications from Hamilton County residents who are:

– Good listeners, demonstrating respect and curiosity in their conversations.
– Equipped with experience in community service, charity work, neighborhood associations, or community organizing.
– Representative of various economic, political, faith, generational, cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

Role Responsibilities:

The position will be conducted remotely and involves a commitment of 3-5 hours per week over a period of 4-6 weeks.

Responsibilities include:

– Reaching out to existing networks via phone calls, texts, emails, or casual conversations.
– Conducting informal interviews and summarizing findings for the research team.
– Participating in regular check-ins with the research team through phone or video calls.
– Facilitating introductions and encouraging individuals to partake in surveys and focus groups.
– Providing input on community members to be consulted and the questions to be asked.

Compensation and Duration:

This project will run through mid-May 2025, with ambassadors compensated at a rate of $20 per hour. It is important to note that while ambassadors play a vital role in community outreach and research, they will not be responsible for writing news articles or producing published content.

Residents interested in this unique opportunity to influence the future of local news in Chattanooga are encouraged to fill out a survey to apply.
