In The Know with Gino…
Chattanooga residents looking to enhance their landscapes this spring have a great opportunity to do so at no cost.
The City of Chattanooga, Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center, and EPB, in partnership is launching its semi-annual Free Tree ReLeaf Program, offering residents the chance to pick up native trees to plant at their homes.
Starting March 14th, and while supplies last, individuals can visit Reflection Riding’s Native Plant Nursery to select two free native trees. The nursery is open from Thursday to Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., located at 400 Garden Road in Chattanooga.
A selection of thirteen native tree varieties will be available, including popular options like the Flowering Dogwood, Eastern Red Cedar, Persimmon, and Yaupon Holly. These trees are suited for local landscapes and are intended to promote environmental health and urban forestry.
Visitors are encouraged to check the full list of available trees and access planting guides online, though reservations are not accepted—trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Staff and volunteers from Reflection Riding will be available on-site to assist residents in choosing the best trees for their specific locations, ensuring that each planting will thrive. Residents are limited to two trees per household, aligning with the program’s goal of broad community participation.
This initiative underscores ongoing efforts to support sustainable growth and green spaces in Chattanooga, making it easier for residents to contribute to the city’s natural beauty and ecological resilience this spring.
